While I was working on one of my businesses today, I came across this YouTube video from Evan Carmichael about Michael Jordan‘s Top 10 Rules for Success and I thought they were fantastic – so much so, I wanted to share it:
Michael Jordan’s Top 10 Rules For Success
Rule #1: Keep Working Hard
Be there before anyone else.
If you want to be successful, you have to work at it!
Be sure to have the right coaches to help keep you on the right path, and a great team to keep you accountable.
Be the last to leave. Constantly work to get better to become the best you can be.
Rule #2: Ignite the Fire
Find your passion and allow it to fuel you, even when you’re tired or doubting your ability to accomplish your goal.
Rule #3: Be Different
Separate yourself from others. Greatness attracts greatness – don’t be a copy.
Rule #4: Fail Your Way to Success
Michael Jordan has missed more than 9,000 shots in his career. Lost almost 300 games. Even missed the game winning shot at least 26 times.
But he never gave up. When you fail – it’s not the end of the world. It is an opportunity to overcome your shortcomings, learn, grow and improve.
Rule #5: Have High Expectations
You have room to improve. Set goals to strive for.
Don’t be complacent for what you have already achieved. You have more to prove as to who you are.
Plateaus do not mean you are perfect – they mean that there is something holding you back. Strive to overcome those plateaus to reach new heights of success you may have never thought were possible!
Rule #6: Be Positive
How you perceive events in your life and how you respond to a situation. Even in a negative situation, you can always find the good or the positive from it. Learn form those bad situations so you never have to be there again and can help others avoid them.
Rule #7: Be Who You Were Born To Be
Again – don’t be a copy! It’s about knowing where you’re going, not forgetting where you started, and having the courage to be different.
Don’t break when broken, taking everything you’ve been given and make something better.
Work before glory. What’s inside of you? Is more potential than you can imagine.
It is a test of your will when you have to deal with the negatives. Overcome it!
Rule #8: Have a Vision
I’ve talked about this before in several blog posts, including why you need a BIG dream to be successful!
“Without a vision, the people will perish.”
You MUST know where you want to go, otherwise you will have no idea when you have achieved the success it takes to get to where you want to be.
Rule #9: Stop Making Excuses
Failure gives you strength – allow your pain to motivate you!
Rule #10: PRACTICE!
Daily consistent action is key to having success!
Practice as if you’re playing “the game” – that way when you “play” it’s not new. In other words? Imagine the results of your success and how you got there. Imagine what could happen if you were to come across an obstacle – what would you do? Play it out in your mind and see yourself achieving the goals you have set for yourself – no matter the obstacle!
That way when you get to that moment, you don’t have to think – it’s instinctive.
That’s it from me for now, my friends.
