While I was working on creating my legacy, I had some TED videos playing in the background …
The one that inspired this blog post was created by incredible story teller named Julia Sweeney.
This video of Julia Sweeney is of her performing
the first 15 minutes of her 2006 solo show Letting Go of God.
When two young Mormon missionaries knock on her door one day, it touches off a quest to completely rethink her own beliefs.
What really hit me most about this video was the fact that while her talk was amusing and thought provoking …
I could see so many similarities between her shared story and my own past.
We all know how we feel, right?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:
Thoughts lead to feelings.
Feelings lead to actions.
Actions lead to results.
Therefore, it only goes to show that we know what we are feeling … Because our thoughts brought them in to being!
Would it also not therefore mean that you could think your feelings away?
The question posed to Julia when she was a child:
Do you believe that God loves you with all of His heart?
With which I think the hesitation she felt on the wording of this was quite intriguing …
But if she had been asked:
“Do you feel that God loves you with all of His heart?”
Without hesitation she would have been able to answer this question …
One is logical. Thought based.
The other is emotion – centered. It is what leads to action.
But it is also fueled by one’s thoughts.
We know how we feel … Don’t we?
Sometimes we can’t make sense of our thoughts and feelings … that’s when we’re being led by our feelings, not our thoughts …
And no matter how much we may tell ourselves that it’s not worth it, we tend to wrap ourselves in the feelings and the moment in time ….
I felt like I understood and felt the same.
Sometimes you don’t know how to explain it. You just know it’s true. It is your truth.
What Else Did I Learn?
“start with a personality test before sharing the good stuff” … ok, so that’s not a direct quote but it’s close enough. 🙂
All of my life coaches, my success coaches, and my money mentors have said something to the extent of:
You are the average of the top 5 people you hang around with, listen to, and learn from.
Who is in your Inner Circle? Who do you hang around most? You need to guard your thoughts!
What About You? What Did You Learn?
